Casa do Promontório
A low limestone house on the last headland before the open Atlantic. The walls are a pale, fossil-flecked stone cut in the hills behind; the terrace faces west over the water, with nothing in between.

What the photographs leave out.
The house
Built in 1968 for a Lisbon engineer and restored in 2021 by the same family, the house is one long storey of Lioz limestone under a flat roof. Six bedrooms open onto a shared gallery; the kitchen and the library keep their original stone floors, worn soft by fifty years of sand.
The setting
The headland stands forty metres above the swell, at the end of a track that stops at the gate. The nearest village is twelve minutes inland. The far cape and its lighthouse sit nineteen kilometres to the south-west, and at night they are the only light on the water.
How it is shown
The owners live here from May to September. Our Lisbon office hosts viewings on weekday mornings, when the light comes from behind the house and the terrace is in shade.
