The house

The farmhouse dates from 1790 and keeps its sgraffito front, its arched doorway and the deep window wells that hold the warmth in winter. Inside, it was rebuilt in 2016 in untreated larch, floors, walls and ceilings, with no varnish anywhere, so the wood will go on darkening slowly for decades.

The setting

The meadow runs five hundred metres down to the lake, which freezes from January to March. A larch forest closes the view to the south-west; the glacier sits seven kilometres up the valley and holds the last of the light.

How it is shown

Our Zürich office hosts viewings from June to October, and in February when the lake is frozen. Winter visits begin in the panelled stube, by the stove, before the rest of the house.
